Covid-19 and Mental Health

Few months back I travelled back from Noida to my home in Ranchi due to covid-19. Everything was running smooth as our town was the least affected at that time from corona virus.
It was the month of June, when I started noticing a change in my mom's behaviour. She started asking me stay with her the whole time . When I asked her what’s the reason behind it.

She said “it feels lonely in here I don’t like this empty house anymore”.

I couldn't understand why all of the sudden she would feel this way. It has always been this way as we have a very small family and everyone is either at work or in college. So, what is it actually that she fears? After asking a lot,

She whispered "I fear losing you”.

Why are the cases increasing rapidly in this current situation?

Faced with new realities of work from home, temporary unemployment, online classes, etc., mental health is more or less compromised. We have a lot of spare time in our home, watching TV with negative news of death, rising cases, suicides. We tend to over think news and develop a fear about it. News of suicides acts as a catalyst , deteriorating our emotional health even more.

Why is this fear?

Often when we are surrounded by uncertainty, a fear of the unknown is developed thus stress and worry are the initial responses to it.

As per WHO, 7.5% Indian population suffers from some sort of mental health condition constituting 1/6th of the global mental, neurological and substance abuse cases.

So, can we say that India is under economic as well as mental recession?
